PATCH NOTES · V0.1

First playtest
release notes.

Windows 64-bit · Solo and up to 8-player co-op

Welcome to the first TeraFirma playtest. You begin with hand tools, a longsword, a wooden shield, and a bedroll. Where you settle is up to you. Dig a shelter into a hillside, clear a patch of ground for crops, or stake out a house with enough room for everyone joining your world.

Starting out
  • New characters receive one bedroll, shovel, hatchet, pickaxe, saw, carving knife, longsword, wooden shield, and rope, plus 10 bandages.
  • All 64 skills start at level 1. Successful actions award experience in the relevant skill and contribute to supporting characteristics.
  • To set up camp, right-click the bedroll in your inventory and place it. Right-click the placed bedroll and choose Set as spawn point. You can bind one bed and one bedroll. When you die, choose either active spawn point or return to the world start.
World generation, gathering, and mining
  • Play on the included map or generate a world from the main menu. Choose a seed, adjust the terrain settings, and preview the landscape before entering it.
  • Dig and level soil for a building site, expose bedrock, and open a mine entrance. Underground, you can extend tunnels and shape their floors and ceilings.
  • Prospect exposed rock for deposits. Mine stone for construction and refine iron, copper, and silver ore into metal bars.
  • Fell trees for timber, cut logs into planks and shafts, and gather sprouts to replant woodland. Wild herbs and crops give you a reason to explore beyond your settlement.
Building and settlement
  • Lay out a blueprint and add materials as you work. Build foundations, stairs, walls, windows, doorways, and roofs. Construction works above and below ground.
  • Wooden house pieces train Carpentry. Stone and pottery-brick house pieces train Masonry. Carving wooden handles and arrow shafts also trains Carpentry. Cutting stone bricks trains Masonry.
  • Enclose a yard with stone or wooden fencing, fit a wooden gate, or build a timber palisade with its own gate.
  • Furnish your settlement with beds, chests, and resource shelves. Use rowboats and sailboats to travel by water.
Crafting, equipment, and quality
  • Open the recipe menu to check ingredients and tools. Use a forge to smelt ore, an anvil for metalwork, a spinning wheel for thread and rope, and a loom for cloth.
  • Smithing brings metal tools, weapons, shields, and armour into one skill. Smelting remains a separate skill for refining ore. We removed Fine Carpentry and the Building & Infrastructure and Knowledge, Trade & Community branches from the skill tree.
  • The Equipment tab shows what you’re wearing, what you’re holding, and your total protection. Mix leather, chainmail, and plate across six armour slots, with separate slots for your main hand and off hand.
  • Eligible equipment can progress through Common, Fine, Masterwork, Journeyman, and Legendary grades. Higher grades reduce wear and can improve use speed, swing speed, or weapon damage. A Legendary item takes half the durability wear of a Common equivalent.
  • Shovels, hatchets, and pickaxes use one fifth of their earlier base durability per action. Tool quality and material still affect wear. You can repair damaged tools.
Farming, food, and survival
  • Cultivate, plant, tend, and harvest 15 crops, including corn, potatoes, pumpkins, wheat, rice, cotton, and wemp. Spin wemp into rope or turn cotton into cloth for bandages and bedrolls.
  • Keep hens for eggs, butcher suitable carcasses for meat, and treat hides to make leather.
  • Bread can reduce stamina use while working, a hearty stew can raise maximum stamina, and broth can help stamina recover faster while resting.
Wildlife and combat
  • Encounter prey, defensive animals, and predators, including deer, boar, wolves, bears, and crocodiles. A deer may flee, while a defensive animal may stand its ground.
  • Open Combat controls (F10) to choose automatic or manual combat, change your stance, or switch between first- and third-person views. Equip a shield to use a shield bash, disengage when a fight turns against you, and use bandages to treat wounds.
Multiplayer and dedicated servers
  • Player-hosted co-op supports eight people, including the host. Share a join code for online play or connect by address on a local network. Everyone needs a matching build and map.
  • Players share terrain changes, buildings, storage, crops, crafting stations, and boats. Each guest has their own inventory, equipment, skills, and needs. Leaving a hosted session restores the guest’s offline character and world.
  • The Windows package includes Start Dedicated Server.cmd, Stop Dedicated Server.cmd, and a setup guide. A dedicated server can host eight guests and keep the world running after everyone leaves.
Installing, saving, and reporting issues

Install the game. Download the TeraFirma Launcher for Windows and open TeraFirmaLauncher.exe. Select Install game, then Play when the download finishes. When a new version is available, select Update in the launcher.

Controls. Press I for inventory, C for recipes, B for building, K for skills, and O for the World menu. Use F5 to save your world before closing the game.

Report an issue. Open World menu → Report an issue. Tell us what you were doing, what you expected, and what happened. Attach in Discord saves a report ZIP, copies its file path, and opens the review channel. Choose Upload a File, paste the path, and send it. After a crash, reopen the game and report it so we can see the previous session’s logs.

ACTIVE DEVELOPMENT
DEVELOPMENT UPDATE

From wilderness to a working settlement.

Our development build now brings together the core systems of an evolving sandbox world—from gathering your first resources to establishing a settlement above or below ground.

Explore an editable wilderness, reshape the terrain, excavate mines and prospect for ore. Chop and replant trees, cultivate nine crop types, and cook meals to support hunger and stamina.

Crafting connects raw materials to useful tools, textiles and construction components. Forges process metal, workbenches support queued production, and tools have individual quality, wear, repair and improvement.

Build with staged blueprints, placing walls, foundations, doors, windows, stairs, roofs and furniture. Organise supplies in chests, larders and resource shelves, with visible stored materials and drag-and-drop inventory management.

Use-based skills reward successful activities, while saving preserves your world changes, crops, buildings, supplies and character progress. Animal animation development is also underway, with idle, walking and running studies for 22 animals.

These systems remain in active development as we continue refining gameplay, balance and visuals.
